Marine Sound Systems
Marine Audio
The objective of marine audio system is not only to create a great listening experience, but for to withstand the elements.Designing an sound system for your boat is not the same as the design you would use for a car or truck. In a boat the listeners are rarely seated in the same direction or the same place every time. Therefore the system layout needs to achieve more of a surround listening experience than a stage configuration (i.e. highs in the front, bass in the rear).
That being said, planning, purchasing, and installation are the three main components of a quality marine sound system installation.
When planning your system, you must first consider what you are trying to accomplish. Are you looking for one central system to play through out the boat, or do you want separate listening zones. Will you control these zones in one central location, or in the individual zones? Do you want to be able to hear the stereo outside of the boat? (For wake boarding or a swim platform). How much sound are you trying to achieve? (Background music or rock the boat)
After deciding what you want to do, you need to determine how much power you will be drawing, and how often the stereo will be played without the boats charging system. You do not want use more power than your boat can provide. Often upgrading the boat’s electrical system is easily resolved (by upgrading to a second alternator, additional batteries, etc.). Isolating a battery and dedicating it to the boats starting electrical system is always a good idea considering how often a boat stereo is played when the boat (charging system) is not running.-DON’T GET STRANDED- For example, in party boats such as pontoon boats where the majority of time is spent entertaining and swimming, additional batteries are normally required.
Before you purchase your equipment, make sure you do your research! All of the components you choose must be compatible and marine grade. Marine grade equipment is built specifically to with stand the elements, and resist corrosion.
