Quality car audio is the ability for your stereo to play music with minimum distortions and maximum frequency ranges at all listening levels as intended by the artist.
This is accomplished by separating sound into three basic ranges (bass, mids, highs)
Bass- is accomplished with a subwoofer, the bigger your sub, the more bass you get. Most subwoofers require a specific size for the box and proper amplification.
Mid Range- mid driver- these speakers cover the widest frequency range (they are commonly the stock speaker found in a car).
Highs-these are accomplished with tweeters(a high frequency speaker), these can be combined with a mid to high range speaker such as a coaxial/triaxial, or can stand alone as a component set.
Power- is accomplished by amplifiers, such as a mono class amp for sub woofers, or a multi channel amp for your left and right speaker combinations. The more power the speakers require, the larger the amp you will need for power.
Head unit-commonly called the receiver, this is the source input (DVD/CD, Radio, Satellite, MP3 ,Bluetooth, etc.) and controls what is delivered to the system. This is usually a single DIN or double DIN (referring to how tall the unit is). An aftermarket head unit usually has a built in amplifier supplying more power than a stock head unit. If planning to use external amplifiers it is important to have a head unit that has the appropriate RCA connectors to allow the unit to control the amp and/or amps properly.

Planning is very important when investing in a high end system, without proper planning it can cost you a lot of extra money, don’t spend money without a plan!
Knowing your vehicle specifications and the dimensions of the vehicle are very important as well, here are some easy steps to follow when making the plan.
Know what size speaker will fit. (speaker depth, sub woofer space, head units size and depth)
Know what you want to accomplish. (bass, highs, full sound)
Know what you have now. (stock speakers or premium sound speakers).
Know how much you are willing to give up (how much space do you really have to spare).
Know what kind of music you listen the most (rock, classic rock, dance, rap, alternative, etc.).
